MALACHITE on CHRYSOCOLLA
Shaba Province, Congo



Numerous mounds of dark green Malachite are present both in mass and as individual crystals throughout the front and top of this 5.5 x 3 x 2" specimen. Certain of the smaller mounds have a second Malachite growth around them, this time of a much lighter green. Toward the right of the specimen, the turquoise Chrysocolla blends into a medium light blue color, possibly another mineral.

Certain of the smaller mounds have a second Malachite growth around them, this time of a much lighter green. Toward the right of the specimen, there is a cavity that opens to the back with dark green Malachite mounds on all of the surfaces.

VIVIANITE

A small, dark green, lustrous Vivianite crystal, placed toward one end of a specimen that measures 1.5 x 1.75 x 1.25 ". The Vivianite crystal measures 3/81/4 1/8" and is in perfect condition.

  GYPSUM

This specimen consists of almost clear, Gypsum crystals laying on and extending from a dark brown, mounding matrix. Certain of the crystal have a light brown, sometimes yellowish staining from this matrix. The largest crystal, extending from the middle of the specimen to the upper right, measures 2½" long, 1 " wide and almost ½" thick, with part of the width being obscured by the matrix overgrowth. There are 5 other large Gypsum crystals on this piece along with 8+ smaller ones. All of the crystals are in good shape.The two large crystals toward the upper left of the image are ½" and ¾" wide respectively and 1¼" high thus bringing the overall measurements of this specimen to 4 x 3½ x 2" high.

MANGANOCALCITE

 3 x 1½ x 1½" high - deep pink color with  numerous, small, white Quartz crystals on the surface and bright, Pyrite crystals in the center fold.

  QUARTZ, PYRITE , SPHALERITE
    Pachapaqui, Peru

On a matrix of massive Pyrite sit numerous Quartz crystals, the largest to 1", which are in turn covered on the back and just on the tips with Calcite. In between certain areas of the Quartz as a section of jet black Sphalerite crystal mounds and in another section a bright Pyrite crystal along with the Sphalerite. The Pyrite crystal measures 3/8  x  3/8" and can best be seen by clicking on the image and going to the enlargements.
