CALCITE  STALACTITE
Rey y Reina Mine, Charcas,
San Luis Potosi, Mexico

On this 1.5 x 0.75 x 0.75", dark brown Calcite stalactite sit numerous white Calcite crystals. Many of these white Calcite crystals have bands of clear Calcite that cut straight through the middle of the crystals and which can be better seen in the enlargements. While on this front face of the Stalactite the white Calcite crystals are further apart, thus allowing the dark brown to come through, the Calcites on the back of the specimen are more close packed and it appears white. The top is terminated with the clear, banded Calcites with the brown Calcite also present. Overall in very good condition.  Certain of the Calcite crystals fluoresce bright red under SW UV.

The entire stalactite resembles this front face image and all of the crystals are in good shape. Quite different from the darker version above. Certain of the Calcite crystals fluoresce bright red under SW UV.
