SPECIMENS FROM THE GEORGE FEIST COLLECTION Below are some specimens I was able to
acquire from the George Feist collection that were first made available at the
2003 Detroit Show by Ross Lillie of North Star Minerals. As noted by Ross, "Mr. Feist had
approximately 200 specimens in his collection that were collected for
aesthetics, classic morphology and unusual habits, combinations, lack of damage
and above all...displayability." CALCITE on FLUORITE A grouping of medium honey colored, complex Calcite crystals, measuring 2 x 1¼ x 1¼" is perched on top of a bed of Calcite crystals upon a Fluorite matrix. The entire specimen measures 3¼ x 2¼ x 2". There is no damage to the main crystal group. Numerous dark Sphalerite crystals are evident on the back and side of the specimen. Previous labels from Stephen Neely, Dan Weinrich and North Star are included.
CALCITE on FLUORITE Several honey colored Calcite crystals are scattered all over
the top of this
CALCITE
A single scalenohedral Calcite crystal, honey colored and measuring 7/8 x ½ x ½" is placed on a small piece of matrix making the entire specimen 1¼ x ¾ x 1½". No damage to the main or side crystal.

CALCITE covering CALCITE
Starting at the beginning, clear Calcite crystal extended in all directions off the top of this specimen. A thin, jet black coating then attached itself to the crystals and these were then partially covered by a subsequent layer of opaque Calcite crystals strategically located on only one side of each crystal. The entire specimen measures 2½ x 1½ x 1½" and there is some dark brass Pyrite, as micro crystals, also on the specimen.
Two Calcite crystals, the largest measuring 2½ x 7/8", make up this 2½ x 3 x 1½" specimen. The Calcite crystal at the lower portion of the image is a light tan color and is attached to the Quartz matrix. This crystal, in turn, pierces another Calcite crystal, also light tan, and suspends it out from the specimen. In the image it would appear that this suspended crystal is damaged and at one time it was naturally truncated. However the truncated end of the crystal has seen a new growth of flat, small, white Calcite crystals. This subsequent growth of Calcite crystals can better be seen in the enlargements.
